During a three-week visit to my homeland, I witnessed dramatic changes in the Maltese urban landscape, a consequence of the construction boom on the island. These changes affected me in a very particular manner, especially since I have always been very sensitive to the natural environment of the island. I found myself having to negotiate with chaotic building activity, the appearance of high-risers, the tension and concerns of friends and other locals I spoke to, and the environmental impact on the island. Attuning to all this was a painstaking process but, by the third day of my stay, I was carrying camera, field recorder and notebook with me, wherever I went.
