Interplay
Sound Installation in 6.1

The sounds that make up Interplay are a combination of non-familiar sound textures, a mix of found sounds gleaned with a variety of microphones, and my intervention on the space using different sound textures and objects found within The Glass Tank, an exhibition space at Oxford Brookes University. The modification of the space into a site of interaction between subject and objects opened up possibilities to sonic presences that are specifically linked to what had initially come across to me as an uneventful space.
An important element of Interplay was the shaping of a work that contrasts with the atmosphere of the Tank and its neighbouring spaces- a provocative act, one might say- that leads to new interactions and confrontations with the space. How does the public react to or engage with a work set within a social and spatial element and how does the body articulate such a contrasting presence?
